Italian Prefab Homes - wooden prefabricated house by Subissati

From Italian design company Subissati comes this wonderful, modern wooden prefabricated house. This Italian prefab home isn’t exactly what you’d expect upon hearing “wooden” and “prefab” in the same sentence. This chic, contemporary house design is the brainchild of architect Roberto Semprini; a sustainable house design born from the notion that the home should be a manifestation of fashion, function, elegance, environmental responsibility and poetry in life. This modern, open concept house design features minimalist interiors with a futuristic edge, because everyday living should be simple, but never be boring. Ultra-modern elements add excitement to these calm spaces, such as the original and innovative staircase. If you’re into eco sustainable homes, check out this Italian prefab home at the Bologna Fair, October 28 to 31, 2009. Subissati.

Prefab Country Homes - Cedar Home Design in Norfolk, UK

Fusing nature’s simplest pleasures with modern technology, the prefab Cedar House by Hudson Architects was designed to blend with its Norfolk, UK surroundings, while at the same time standing out for its innovative design. From the inside out, this fabulous country home screams “nature!” through and through. This modern prefab design is clad in 15,000 natural cedar shingles (roof and all!) and wrapped in wide windows that welcome the view. Outside the four-by-two-meter windows and expansive glazed doors that open onto a deck, the Wensum River flows through the North Elmham countryside. The sliding doors lead into the living room and a large, bright kitchen. Two bedrooms and a guest room round out the sleeping quarters, while a dark room and studio accommodate the homeowner’s labor of love – photography. Hudson Architects

Thailand Wood Prefab Houses with Modern Butterfly Roof

The architects at TYIN Tegnestue – a non-profit group of student architects – designed these unusual wood prefab houses, Soe Ker Tie Hias, which translates to “Butterfly Houses,” in Noh Bo, Tak, Thailand. These eco-friendly prefab homes are named for their innovative flip-up roof design that enables effective natural ventilation while collecting rainwater for re-use. These compact wood houses are clad in locally harvested bamboo, and the material is woven using a traditional method on the front and rear facades that appears commonly in other homes and crafts done in the area. The homes are prefabricated and assembled on site, adding to their sustainable appeal. The houses are raised off the ground, set on four foundations cast in old tires, eliminating the problem of excessive moisture and resulting rot. TYIN Tegnestue

Prefab Villas – Modern Prefab Villa Design by Architect Daniel Libeskind

“Prefab” and “sustainable” is a pairing that goes together like salt and pepper, but architect Daniel Libeskind does it with a little added spice in his contemporary design for The Villas. Ready to ship and assemble wherever you choose to call “home,” these modern prefab villas are part of a signature series that mirrors the sharp edges and asymmetrical angles of crystal. Clad in zinc, the design for these eco friendly prefab homes allowed the architect to incorporate sustainable technologies such as a solar thermal system and a rain-water recycling system located on the home’s green rooftop. The structure is largely constructed of wood, used for its remarkable carbon-storing capacity and responsible for the home’s minimal carbon footprint. The eco-story continues, with renewable energy sources supplying the home’s heating, electricity and water, and a geothermal system with a high-efficiency heat pump. These innovative 515m2, two-storey luxury villas with basement don’t skimp on the extras, boasting four bedrooms, TV screens concealed behind mirrors in the four bathrooms, Jacuzzi and sauna, a fireplace room, aluminum-framed balcony, under-floor heating, and extras like a swimming pool or garage, and a wine cellar, topped off with a $2.8-$4.2 million price tag. Prefabricated Concrete Home in Sonoma County, CA - aligned with the orchard!

Located in an apple orchard in Sonoma County, California, the contemporary Orchard House by Anderson Anderson Architecture alternates cast concrete, galvanized steel and floor-to-ceiling glass for a truly unique design reflective of its surroundings. This modern home is prefabricated using a repeated modular framework and standardized SIPS sandwich panel and prefabricated truss framing components. This approach to design was two benefits – a highly adaptable design, and decreased construction costs.

But don’t be fooled; this project didn’t just “go up.” The design involved a study of the surrounding agricultural landscape, and each individual tree dotting it. “True to the character of the orchard, the house is laid out as long sequences of interior and exterior courtyards, defined by the adjacent trees, affording long, metered views along the rectilinear and diagonal axes of the field,” according to Anderson Anderson Architecture. “The massive concrete walls align with the rows of tree trunks, while the open volumes of the rooms and exterior courts align with the open space between trees, affording a direct spatial continuity between house and landscape, figure and void.”

The home’s low profile and flat roof keep it comfortably beneath the treetops. Both inside and out, this single-storey house boasts modern, minimal simplicity – heated concrete slabs, raw concrete primary walls inside and out, and interior secondary walls and ceilings are finished in white drywall.
