This geometric house designed by Netherlands architects dmvA proves that it's hip to be square - and in this case, triangular too. The first thing you see on approach is the striking A-frame structure that invites you in. On further exploration, you discover a rectangular volume just behind, and a wonderful square deck out front that incorporates the outdoors into the living space.

The glazed house extension of this Sherman Oaks-area home brings this design into a modern and stylish era. Not of your typical California houses, this contemporary style home designed by Warren Techentin Architecture was redesigned to accommodate a growing family with amazing views to boot. This glass wall house boasts a basilica-style roof, which offers spacious interiors for this open concept home design. The soaring ceilings enhance the home's sense of space indoors, while the massive glass facade overlooks a valley dotted with California sycamores, offering earthy views at every turn. Interiors are warm, yet modern, with rich natural wood cladding the floors and wall detail, meeting the woods just on other side of the glass. Warren Techentin Architecture

Rustic yet refined, this chic cottage home is a must-see. Originally built in the 1960s, this New York home by award-winning architecture firm Method Design was made over with three main objectives – the creation of formal entry, the addition of a master suite, and an overall re-cladding using a sustainable material, all the while respecting the mature-growth trees dotting the hillside. The slope house plan was given a 500-sq.-ft. addition perched on stilts, putting the master among the trees surrounding it and a newly defined main entrance just below it. This contemporary cottage boasts clean, modern interiors presenting a combination of interesting architectural details, natural wood and lots of glass to let the views in at every turn. Now, this cool forest home is out idea of a sweet retreat! Method Design

This particular glass and brick house in Belgium has something… extra. This amazing brick exterior home designed by Bruno Erpicum features contemporary glass wall addition at the back of the house, offering an unusual element to the otherwise traditional structure. A steeply pitched roof and brick walls give the house a rustic style. The characteristic brick and stone walls make their way in, giving interiors a modern industrial aesthetic that is cool, yet warm. Upstairs, directly overhead the small but sweet kitchen, a modern loft houses the bedroom. Out back, the glazed sunroom offers the perfect spot to enjoy the outdoors without ever leaving the comfort of home. For more cool Belgium homes visit Bruno Erpicum

This urban cottage home plan designed by Australian architects 4site Architecture is a layering of old and new, indoor and outdoor spaces, the predictable with pops of bold color that are anything but mundane. The small house design, measuring just 34m2 for the original structure and 13m2 of addition, had an equally small budget for the redesign, so the architects opted to simply reorganize living areas into a more functional space. The compact cottage is characterized for its striking blue volume that shakes things up in this neighborhood of beige, salmon pink and green, featuring a folding glass wall that opens onto the backyard and connects indoors to out.
