This inspiring cliff house architecture takes a cue from famed artist Pablo Picasso and is, in our humble opinion, a masterpiece in its own right. Designed by Australian architects Durbach Block Jaggers, this contemporary style home near Sydney, Australia features a glass and stone exterior with curved walls that cling to this 70-meter high rocky hotspot overlooking sun, sand and surf as far as the eye can see. Minimalist interiors are bright and cool - the ultimate place to relax and take in the beauty that surrounds, both the natural and that by design. Expansive glazing lets in the breathtaking vistas and lots of natural light, but the best views are to be had from the home's many outdoor terraces, the lower-level swimming pool and the rooftop garden. This outdoor living beach house designed by Australian firm Wright Feldhusen Architects boasts just the right blend of modern indoor living rooms and contemporary outdoor entertaining areas overlooking the coast. Ideally suited to the surrounding landscape, this low-lying structure doesn't exceed 4 meters from natural ground level due to local building codes, resulting in a single-level residence that, instead of growing upward, reaches out toward the waterfront. This amazing Australian beach house offers indoor and outdoor living rooms (which are sheltered by a wide-reaching overhang), each capturing this area's best - the hot afternoon sun and the cool south-westerly breeze. A floor-to-ceiling glass wall blurs the boundary between indoors and out, offering protection from the elements without obstructing the pristine views. Wright Feldhusen Architects

UK-based firm AR Design created this contemporary coastal architecture to focus on the views outward, and as importantly, to be seen! The oceanfront house in finished with a clean, ultra-contemporary aesthetic blending industrial-chic elements and refined touches like polished countertops and floor-to-ceiling glass. The minimalist interiors put the focus squarely on what’s going on outdoors – the UK’s South Coast, the Solent and the Isle of Wight. Running up the center, a modern industrial-style spiral staircase anchors the house and its multiple cantilevers, winding its way up to an illuminated glass-enclosed roof top loft (thus the home’s moniker – Lighthouse 65). The glass cube glows according to the weather conditions – green when the weather is fair, or red – sailors beware! Venture out to the upper-level deck (also home to parking for three cars!) to take in the sparkling waterfront views. AR Design

This modern round home designed by Ciel Rouge takes its prized spot cliffside overlooking the sea. With offices in Paris and Tokyo, the cosmopolitan architecture firm thought outside the box when designing this amazing round house – literally. Straying from convention in concept and in practice, this contemporary style house features a rounded facade dotted with windows that allow the free flow of natural light and the fresh salty breeze. A sunken interior courtyard gives the house plan a private piece of the great outdoors, enclosed in glass and overlooked by the home’s living areas. But looking out over Japan’s sparkling shoreline, the best views are to be had from the rooftop garden of the house, where lush plantings and gardens transform a roof into a hotspot. Ciel Rouge

Canadian Patkau Architects designed this elongated house on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. A modern fixture on this 16-acre farm, the slope house boasts an orchard of fruit trees to the south side and a hay field to the north – a natural backdrop to the contemporary style house. Stretching 276 ft. across, this long and lean house features the main living quarters and guest accommodations separated by breezeway. Ultra-modern interiors actually glow, thanks to the use of translucent acrylic panels and 40 skylights overhead, further enhanced by the floor-to-ceiling windows and fully retractable glass wall of the house. The minimalist interiors are the perfect venue to display these breathtaking, unbeatable views. It’s a nature-lover’s paradise! Patkau Architects
