Modern Eclectic Texas Interior is Full of Mix and Match DIY Ideas

This 5 bed, 4.5 bath, modernist home in Houston is actually a model home for a pre-sale. But we’re more interested in the eclectic interior than the house itself. It has many ideas you can borrow to DIY in your own remodel. It is of interest to note that the exterior – both front and back – do nothing to prepare you for the grand opulence inside. It takes a special talent to mix and match styles and to pull off this eclectic look, perhaps even more so in industrial.

The outside of the model home, on Ivanhoe Drive in Houston, TX is fairly pedestrian looking.

But when you step inside – wow. Leather tufted sofa and chairs – and just look at that outstanding chandelier.

The floor lamps in the living area are Klieg lights from the movies – are you ready for your closeup? They’re on wheels for easy mobility.

A rich leather sofa matched with leather chairs with a twist – aluminum shells to finish off that industrial look.

Watch TV, or just gaze at the fire – it’s a relaxing room. Note the old trunk theme throughout the house – here, it’s used as a coffee table.

Antlers are another repeated theme through the house. The vaulted ceilings, natural light and vertical wood stripping walls give the room real height.

The kitchen is the most industrial of all. The hanging pendant lights make a real statement and the exposed metallic duct work gives the room a loft-flavor. Notice the interesting shape of the island counter and the open shelving.

The kitchen is open to the family room with the TV and fireplace. We love the triple apron sink – in copper.

The kitchen is a foodie’s dream – killer appliances to work with. Check out how many burners there are on that stovetop!

To the left, the powder room. But straight ahead – the cinema! There’s a bit of a theme here with the Klieg lights.

Inside the movie room, nice comfortable leather seating and more exposed duct work.

The bedrooms are quite eclectic but they have been put together with a lot of thought. Left of the bed represents lower Manhattan – SoHo (south of Houston) and the right side is the top of the New York island kingdom.

Twin beds in this one with antlers and a retro Edison bulb lamp. The travel theme we saw that began with the sea trunks is picked up here in the flags.

USA, Canada and UK flags, a globe and old prop plane propellers keep the travel theme moving.

The Devrine clock in this bedroom is a replica of a 5 ft. tall French clock tower.

The master bedroom has it all. A leather tufted headboard, antlers, a chandelier. And don’t you adore the sea trunks as bedside tables? And a blanket box at the end of the bed.

There’s an antique map on the wall behind the wingback chairs.

And isn’t this clever? A sea trunk used as a wardrobe (and a place to keep the bedroom TV).

How eclectic is this bathroom? New York subway tiles line the shower and we’ve got more of those globe-like chandeliers.

Fainting sofas – and an entire wall of towel and other bath accessories in a shabby chic hutch.

There’s even exposed duct work in the master bath. That’s one of the tricks to a successful theme – keep it going through all the rooms. Such rich contrast between the duct work and the furnishings. Did you notice the large apothecary jars in the open shelves of the hutch?

The master bath has double sinks, double showers, double chandeliers and double sofas. Not to mention enough towels to dry an army.

Wasn’t this a clever twist? Using decorative heating/cooling vents as drawer fronts. This would be really easy to do at home.

Even the dressing room has a chandelier!

From the outside – front or back – you have no idea the eclectic industrial interior that lies within. What a house – and easy to pick up a few hints and do something like this yourself. The travel theme is one that is easy to carry through every room and it can be subtle. Just a hint. Something to tie it all together. Often your guests won’t see the connection outright but the theme will tie all the rooms together under the surface. It’s magic.
