Chic Beach House of Simple Luxuries

chic-beach-house-1.jpg
London-based design firm Fiona Barratt Interiors takes beach-house style in a decidedly chic direction. In true beach-bum fashion, the look is carefully carefree – opposing ideas which work together in perfect harmony. Here, simplicity sings! An earthy palette of materials echoes the coastal scenery, always visible through large windows and sliding glass doors. From the driftwood-esque weathered woods and the sand-colored textiles, to the ceiling fans and collection of ocean-inspired treasures, this interior design says ahhhhh. Beyond the home’s walls, a well-dressed deck ensured the outdoors are of equal comfort, with a full suite of furnishings carrying the same signature beach-chic style. And then there’s the view. You’ll just have to see it for yourself.

The home’s interior inspiration comes from its exterior environment – colors and materials borrowed from the lush plant life, azure water and the laid-back lifestyle that make the Balearic Islands off the coast of Spain such a hot tourist destination.

A prevailing theme of the home is “luxury meets nature,” which really stands out in spaces like the elegant outdoor patio, the stunning spa-inspired baths, and this kitchen. A wood-faced island features a clean white countertop, reflecting the warm “rusty” cage lights dangling overhead – a found treasure indeed!

The office/library can either be great for work, or great for diversion. The view is a sure inspiration, but how long can you stay buried in a book, knowing that with the simple slide of the glass, the outdoors are literally at your fingertips? We love the rich, warm wood that prevails in the solid furnishings, against the sun-bleached white backdrop.

Past the gauzy curtains and through the sliding patio doors, a heavy marble table is adorned with corals, rattan chairs and a lush green view.

This stairwell reminds us of an underwater view – the textural sea bottom in the form of a rug; bits of blue sea glass twinkling on display; wave-beaten wood, all illuminated by the sunlight streaming in from overhead.

The stairwell is topped by a dazzling chandelier dangling in the skylight opening.

This bedroom is a retreat unto itself, featuring a relaxing atmosphere of cool off-whites and natural woods. The richly grained timber headboard is flanked by a pair of glass globe pendants wrapped in knotted rope. And of course, the piece de resistance is the waterfront view.

This secondary bedroom carried the same white and wood palette, only in different proportions. The result is richer, more textural. Almost more masculine, as opposed to its more-delicate predecessor.

A kid’s bedroom boasts a little more fun in the form of color, some toys, and a playful display of keys – perhaps to a long-lost treasure chest?

And last but certainly not least, what is an island home without a wealthy, well-stocked wine collection to last you through any stormy weather?
