New Museum Installation Showcases Dornbracht Horizontal Shower

We’ve featured the Dornbracht Horizontal Shower on Trendir in the past – and now it’s part of a very funky art installation at the New Museum in New York. Titled The Island (KEN), this installation is created by the New York based artist collective DIS in collaboration with Dornbracht, and co-designed by the creative director and designer Mike Meire. And this is truly the ultimate reclining shower. Six water bars beat down in a choice of three preset pulsing beats: Balancing, Energizing or De-stressing. Island (KEN) is a state-of-the-art smart island with e-controls to regulate the flow of the shower. The hybrid project combines the social kitchen with the private bathroom – raising questions and turning our preconceptions on their axis. And it’s not just an installation piece but a performance piece as well. A philosopher makes salad while discussing hyper objects while a woman lies under the horizontal shower. In the meantime, the smell of butter wafts from the stove, hitting multiple senses at once. The exhibit will be on display at the Lobby Gallery at the New Museum in New York from February 25th to May 24th, 2015. Come enjoy a little salad, a little philosophy and a little shower.
