Modern Houston Home – Raw Meets Refined in this Japanese design

With a name that literally translates to “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete” in Japanese, the Wabi Sabi House in Houston, Texas, is certainly a “flawed” beauty. This design by Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects bridges the gap between raw nature and refined modern form. The 3,750-sq.-ft. three-bedroom home features a simple “box” design with subtly skewed angles that add a contemporary element to the natural surroundings. The wooden home and its large deck are built around the old-growth trees dotting the property. Nature makes its way inside, where salvaged and reclaimed woods are the main attraction, adding an organic dimension to the sleek and polished interior spaces. Skylights, large windows and a rooftop deck blur the line between indoors and outdoors. Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects
