Emergent Design Studios completed a 19th century London home remodel, and it looks fantastic. Contemporarily minimal, it comes in light grey tones doused in natural light.Most rooms in the house come with their separate function, but some feature modern open layout that usually connects two zones.

While the living area is a narrow room filled with bookshelves, complementing a reading nook, the kitchen shares floor space with the dining zone. Same goes for media room and a kid’s play area.

To bring more natural light to the lower levels of the four-storey house, Emergent went for skylights and glass staircase railings. Even though rooms aren’t too spacious, they feel open and well-lit. Beside skylights, Emergent added glazed wall inclusions that open up to a green yard and allow more light in .

All rooms are storage-friendly. There is a minimal closet in the media room and a lot of cabinets in the home office. A well-built kitchen comes with a huge kitchen island and inbuilt technology.

The contemporary aesthetic works surprisingly well in a house with the mostly original architecture. Minimal interiors are functional and stylish, and the dwelling seems inviting thanks to all that natural light. (Photography by NAARO)
