Grass Covered House in Austria … really?

Amalia House by Grid Architects is an awesome vacation home for a family with members scattered all across Austria. Located on a hilltop in Styria, Austria, this comfortable, contemporary retreat accommodates up to six people, but squeezing in a few more only makes the time spent here merrier. As an ode to its surrounding natural landscape, this two storey house is constructed of prefabricated wood panels and yes, that is artificial grass that gives this house its modern, memorable facade. This unique exterior is complemented by an unconventional silhouette, with a cantilevered volume that from within offers the illusion of a floating room, while on the outside it creates a covered area ideal for a patio, equipment storage or car parking. The home boasts two large openings, angled to extend the outdoors into the main living area, which is heated by a charming wood stove. The kitchen-dining area opens to a simple spiral staircase, which leads visitors to the first floor, and up to the bathroom and separate shower room. Reflecting the surrounding environment, this house is designed in an uncomplicated, unassuming style for relaxation and good times. Grid Architects
