Modern Victorian House Plan with a twist

Australian architects Chenchow Little gave this amazing Victorian house plan a modern twist – skylights! Because of the home’s historic nature, the designers were prohibited from re-working the facade, so they set their sights a little higher, looking to the roof for contemporary carte blanche. What is now known as the Skylight House features expansive glazing that floods interior with natural light. And despite the home’s old-world exterior, minimalist interiors are the epitome of contemporary-cool. To make the most of the overhead natural lighting, the architects put the main living areas on the top floor, and bedrooms buried on the main. That’s not to say the main floor is “buried” by any means – a floor-to-ceiling glass wall in the house at the rear overlooks an interior courtyard at the heart of this house plan.
