Weekend Retreat Design blends ultra-modern with rural

Brazilian architect Ferederico Zanelato has designed his own ultimate weekend retreat, located on the outskirts of Sao Paolo but away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Dubbed Casa Martins Siquiera, this cool, modern house blends the ultra-modern with distinctly rural, raw elements, thereby accentuating each end of the spectrum. The minimalist exterior of this cube house boasts few details. Two white volumes stand side by side, with the entrance and a courtyard running between them. A slim, rectangular window offers a slim peek at the home’s interior, which combines industrial elements like concrete and roughly mortared brick walls, with chic circular skylights overhead and large windows overlooking the backyard. A swimming pool runs the length of the house, and extends beneath a cantilevered volume on the second storey. Just as its construction materials and styles, this home’s simplicity, yet complexity, makes it a truly thoughtful and thought-provoking design, all done at a cost of just $510/m2.
