Modern “Open House” in South Africa sees Architecture and Decor pull together

We instantly fell for this modern open house located in Cape Town, South Africa, for its complementary use of architecture and decor to create a warm and welcoming residence that anyone would be lucky to call “home.” VIVID Architects together with SAOTA (Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects) designed Silverhurst House in a classical style with a contemporary twist, making it a veritable dream home for nature and architecture lovers alike.

Inspired by Georgian style structures, the home’s facade features recessed and projected volumes to create courtyards and terraces, adding architectural interest and a connection to the outdoors.
Open volumes are sheltered to offer outdoor entertaining in any weather, with the same comfort and style afforded by the indoor living areas.
Interiors feature floor to ceiling folding glass doors, expanding the home’s living space beyond its walls while also imparting a sense of openness inside. Principal living areas overlook the private courtyard, and boast a refreshing feeling of alfresco living in spite of being “indoors.” At every turn, natural light flows in and washes every room with cool, clean luminosity.
Taking a cue from the architecture, interiors appointed by Antoni Associates carry this same fresh, airy aesthetic that transitions you from outdoors to indoors seamlessly. Jerusalem stone flooring flows through internal and external living spaces, and gives way to fumed oak floors in the living and dining areas, and American cedar doors and pergolas. Complementing this earthy palette, furnishings of wood with leather and suede upholstery add warmth with a modern edge.
The bedroom and bathroom provide a peaceful lull from life’s hurries and worries.
We love the rooftop deck, which overlooks the outdoor living and lounging areas, the landscaped gardens by Franchesca Watson, and the pool.

  1. This is the best design of a comfortable self air conditioned home I have ever home I hardcover come across. It fulfills allcthecaspirations of the retirement home I want to build on a hilltop at my farm. Everything just seems to be in place. The decor is one that I would love to literallyl lift from there into my home. Any more details about this plan? The onlymissing aspect about it is the illustration of the kitchen. My wife will not be happy with me when finally show her the plans for our dream house.
