Modern Farmhouse Design in Portugal – where urban meets rural

A modern beacon in the midst of country scenery, this cool, contemporary farmhouse set in the remote rural landscape of Lousado, Portugal embraces minimalist style within a decidedly old-world setting. The juxtaposing of old and new; urban and rural reflects the home’s unique characteristic of city-meets-country. Casa em Lousado, the project by Graca Correia and Roberto Ragazzi Architects incorporates an original farmhouse, updated with a unique, modern style. A clean, white facade features simple lines and a basic geometric shape that stands out among the trees and river that runs past the property. Inside, minimal details and white walls make way for the wonderful natural elements of wood and stone, which adorn the walls and floor of almost every room. The expansive windows help to blur the line between indoors and out. The unique positioning of the home on a hillside allows for its second floor to act as the main entrance, housing the home’s public living spaces. At the heart of this floor is a sculptural fireplace that commands attention and makes a fitting hub of the home. Graca Correia and Roberto Ragazzi
