Farmhouse Design Ideas – Bluff Farm House

Australian architecture firm Richard Cole Architecture has designed the Bluff Farm House in the tradition of quiet rural homes, with a modern edge. Located in Hunter Valley of New South Wales, Australia, this contemporary farm house idea came up in response to the strong pastoral appeal of the site – a grassy, hilly terrain overlooking a meandering river and an awesome valley. According to Richard Cole Architecture, “The essential concept of the house reflects the way in which the owner has always used this place: setting up a table on the grass under the shade of the tree.” A cool, glass-enclosed exterior features a contemporary, overhanging roof that provides some shade from the hot afternoon sun. The edgy exterior is complemented by an interior palette of “raw” materials, as described by the architects – concrete, galvanized steel, sandstone, recycled timber and plywood. Rustic yet urban and oddly authentic all at the same time, the unique Bluff Farm House makes modern the tradition of rural home building. Richard Cole Architecture.
