James Hawley of Christopher Simmonds Architect Inc. sent us photos of their latest and greatest house design, which received its final finishing touches in September 2012 - just in time to take in autumn's splendor along the Ottawa River. In fact, this magnificent modern home was designed with its natural environment in mind, presenting different but equally breathtaking vistas at every turn. If you're not near enough to see these sights in person, here's a photo tour of the Ottawa River House and its picturesque surroundings.
This modern house design features a facade of glass and contemporary grey brick - a cool and refined yet natural palette that so aptly introduces this home's well balanced aesthetic.
An elongated entrance features a cedar plank ceiling that extends from outdoors in (talk about making a grand entrance!), adding instant drama without straying too far from nature.
Interiors also echo these rustic earth tones against a contemporary, minimalist white backdrop. Light infuses the home's interlocking volumes, seeping in through vast window walls that splash these neutral interiors with whatever shades dot the leaves and landscape outside through the changing seasons.
As you continue through to the home's main living areas, views of the southerly courtyard and the raw, rushing river further solidify the home's earthy appeal.
But Mother Nature aside, the architects artfully brought a touch of elegance and refined tastes into the home via its sweeping open concept layout, barely there glass interior walls and ultra modern fireplace features. Furniture and lighting complement and enhance the home's modern style.
Fashion meets function in the dark and dramatic kitchen (pictured above), and of course, the spa inspired bathroom (seen below) which is a sweet retreat indeed, complete with a fireplace (swoon).
