Artistic, Eco-friendly Architecture by Archefield, Australia

When architecture becomes art, that’s when things get really interesting. Balaam House is a futuristic house design by Archefield that encompasses urban and natural with its unique combination of zinc aluminium, concrete, timber and raw battening. A cantilevered pool at the home’s entrance its piece de resistance – not that it’s easy to choose just one. A private garden with a fire pit becomes an outdoor living room of sorts, inviting you to linger a while as you take in the river-side view. The interior living room is just as welcoming as its outdoor counterpart, with its open-concept style and light-filled space. The home’s southern wing is designated for entertaining, while at the north end, four bedrooms are privately stacked atop the garage. The master wing sits comfortably out of reach, on the home’s top level. With beauty comes brains – not only is this innovative design beautiful to behold; it’s designed with eco-friendly features like “rain water harvesting, solar hot water, passive ‘heat stack’ cross ventilation (see the stairwell ventilation and light shaft on the easterly wall), solar control glass, operable louvers, shutters and blinds on solar clocks to limit use of air-conditioning, thermal mass and low maintenance, recycled, materials were all a consideration,” as outlined by our source.
