Inspired by the trains running beneath it, the modern Mile Post 9 house by E. Cobb Architects blends an authentic railroad tradition with a clean and contemporary edge – a combination not easy to achieve in perfect harmony. E. Cobb Architects have managed to create two very different visual experiences of this cool house: one from the exterior, and a totally different one from the interior, all that while hanging off the side of a steep slope, looming over the brush, rocks and the train’s path below. The home design boasts bold, rusty-red blocks reminiscent of the cars, framed by strongly horizontal steel balconies that hint not-so-subtly at the parallel tracks. Interiors are quite the contrast form the rustic exterior, featuring clean lines and a minimal color palette of white and warm woods. But like the exterior, the home’s interior also has a strong horizontal presence in the window frames and the handrail running its way along the stairway. E. Cobb Architects.
