A fireplace feature can make a great room divider, and this example shows us that. The imposing marble structure sits in the room creating not only a separation between spaces but an extremely awesome focal point. It’s massive and strong with room to store logs. This is great because the wood and marble provide a visual contrast that is quite striking. When the flames are going, it’s pure bliss - and it can be enjoyed from many perspectives. Therefore, in a way, this divider fireplace also unifies the surrounding spaces while dividing them at the same time. It’s just such a great idea for open plan living.

A central fireplace can easily become a focal point and with the capacity to be viewed by many sides, it becomes an item that can pull spaces together. This tapered central fireplace is quite striking and unusual, and its position serves numerous functions. Apart from being a cozy focal point, its structure also encloses the living room, separating it from the hallway, while still leaving the hallway with the warmth and charm from the flames. Its geometric quality gives it modern contemporary flair that ties in nicely with the rest of the home. See more at AtCasa.

Pattersons Architects designed this beautiful house in New Zealand that has the most amazing and unique modern stone fireplace. Stone can be quite rustic and raw, but the open design of the fireplace makes it really modern at the same time. The flames sit a top a semi-glossy looking white slab while whimsically dancing around those metal rings. The stone backdrop ties everything together for a cozy, contemporary look. We love how each element of this fireplace design has its own defining characteristics but when put together in this way, they have a symbiotic relationship. We are really enjoying the rest of the room too. See more from Pattersons Architects.

We must share this contemporary firewood storage idea. Displaying firewood can be such a wonderful addition to an interior scheme. Wood is natural and full of texture which brings out an innate sense of comfort. In a space with such tall ceilings, it makes sense to store it in a vertical fashion, which drives our gaze upwards to appreciate this feeling of space. Intelligently, they separate the storage space with angled shelves in a zigzag pattern. This is an important idea in its design since it facilitates storage and accessibility to the wood. Without it, it would be impossible to properly rotate the supply. It looks amazing and it’s functional - perfect.

Take a look at some examples of fireplace features in these white Swedish interiors. For instance, against a clean white backdrop, we love how the grey stone fireplace becomes a strong focal point. Complemented by a rug with warm, rich colors and lots of cozy blankets, the white sofas contrast this and pop out against the grey stone. It’s very visually appealing and certainly inviting. In the kitchen and hallway of one of the homes, the brick components with arched detailing hint to the feeling of a fireplace or wood burning ovens without one actually being there. Again, against a white backdrop, the bricks have a profound impact. Nothing beats the comfort and warmth a fireplace (or the suggestion of one) can provide.
