Unique Unconventional Floor Plan for the Modern Home

Settled in Bernal Heights, San Francisco, the Fong/Rodriguez House takes an unconventional approach to planning. Architect Craig Steely designed this cool, modern home with the living areas at the top level, so as to make the most of the spectacular surrounding city skyline. Below it, the middle level is occupied by bedrooms, a studio and a gallery, wrapped in rich cherry wood and a white steel-framed glass staircase leading you down to the ground level garages and studio. The staircase home features a predominantly white color palette, with punches of vibrant yellow, blue and red wherever the designer could squeeze them in. The coolest feature of this modern house is an eight-ft. steel-rimmed circular hole cut into the roof, creating a stunning sundial effect through the house. Architect Craig Steely.
