Minimalist House – Modern Architect’s Private Home

Contemporary Australian architect Sharon Fraser took her job to a new, more-personal level when she designed her own minimalist house in Byron Bay. With the goal of bringing the outdoors into her modern yet livable design, the architect went with a functional U-shaped plan that elongates the home’s perimeter to maximize the amazing view. Wide windows and entries with sliding and pivoting glass doors blur the boundary between indoors and out, while outdoor living areas engage the landscape. The curious red rabbit sculpture by artist Peter McLisky adds a playful punch of color into the otherwise elegant surroundings. Interiors are minimalist and modern, with a predominantly white palette that leaves the focus on the outdoors. Completed in 2008, Fraser describes this contemporary house design as “something I’ve wanted to build for a while, totally different from the other projects.” Sharon Fraser Architects
