Hillside Cottage Plan in New Zealand Embraces Serenity and Sustainability

Designed by Tennent + Brown Architects, this marvelous hillside cottage located in New Zealand was built as a cluster of individual cabins to accommodate relaxation and rejuvenation. Shared by two French brothers, the plan of this cottage home commanded two separate bedroom/bathroom/study quarters, and a shared kitchen/main living space, to be used once or twice for vacationing. And they couldn’t have picked a sweeter retreat – perched precariously on a hillside overlooking a magical scene of mountains and bay, this bold landscape largely sets the tone for this unusual design. This amazing slope house plan was made possible thanks to heli-lifting, which delivered materials to its perilous position. This rustic cottage features privacy and peace in its glass-enclosed living spaces, shuttered to offer solace from the hot afternoon sun. But some features of this amazing mountain residence soak up every bit of sun they can get – solar conscious design, photovoltaics, rainwater harvesting and passive ventilation are some of this sustainable eco friendly cottage’s features.
