Eclectic Outdoor Lighting Ideas by Pottery Barn

eclectic-outdoor-lighting-idea-pottery-barn-1.jpg

Recently, the Design Studio at Pottery Barn shared and interesting idea about achieving an eclectic outdoor lighting scheme and we’d like to share it here with you. They advised to choose a type of lighting and display it in multiples for an enchanting and dramatic effect as seen in the image above. We couldn't agree more. Whether you choose candles, tiki torches or lanterns, get a few different types from your category and mix them together. This gives your outdoor lighting scheme instant eclectic interest and a fun casual edge - the perfect recipe for a relaxed yet enchanted ambiance for your moonlit outdoor gatherings, no matter how elaborate or intimate. Below are some additional images we gathered to further inspire more lighting ideas of the same nature.

Rooftop Terrace Interior Design

rooftop-terrace-interior-design-1.jpg

The wonderful interior design of this home creeps out onto the rooftop terrace, resulting in an extremely inviting and cozy exterior space. If we consider balconies, terraces and back yards not as separate spaces, but instead as extensions of our home, great things can happen - as seen here. Lots of seating available promotes socializing and interaction, while an abundance of colorful pillows and blankets secures comfort. Notice, one side of the terrace seems planned for gatherings, equipped with a sun umbrella and seating that encourages eye contact and conversation. But there is also a nice long row of seats facing out toward the amazing view, more appropriate for side by side quiet time or relaxation while taking in the scene from the rooftop. And the hot tub definitely speaks for itself.

Backyard Theatre by Pottery Barn

backyard-theatre-pottery-barn-1.jpg

Here’s a fun, inspiring idea by Pottery Barn for a backyard theatre. If you've been to an open air cinema before, you know how pleasurable and magical it can be. A huge screen, glowing in the darkness, seemingly suspended in thin air. Why not recreate that in your own backyard? The styling of this image makes you want to put it on the list of things to do this weekend. For the screen, Pottery Barn suggests sewing two ironed, queen sized sheets together. Insert a top pole between the sheets and hang with rope from a tree. Insert a bottom pole and fasten to the ground somehow (rope and tent stakes is what they suggest). And there you go, your very own, home made projector screen. Of course, ambiance is everything. So put together an enchanting lighting scheme, some comfortable seating and cozy blankets and you are set. This can be a creative setting for a romantic evening or equally exciting for a family/friends night. How badly do you feel like trying this out right now?

Patio Design Inspiration by Patricia Urquiola

patio-design-inspiration-patricia-urquiola-3.jpg

Patricia Urquiola designed parts of the W Retreat & Spa (Vieques Island) and her work is overflowing with great patio design inspiration. She used some of her patio furniture from the Tropicalia collection for Moroso, such as those colorful daybeds and cocoons as well as those threaded chairs. She took inspiration from the island and used local resources to achieve an authentic vibe. We love the use of round shapes like the cocoon and daybed, or the glowing furniture and round, open fireplace. Splashes of color mirror the Caribbean feel, while materials like reclaimed wood, cord and concrete inject a rustic seaside element to these patio designs. Anyone interested in going to examine these spaces in more detail in person?
