Modern Japanese Architecture Remains the World's Most Unusual ...

Despite its name, A-House is not just “a house.” A fine example of modern Japanese architecture, this contemporary single-family house in Setagaya, Tokyo was designed by Hiroyuki Fukuyama, who had an innovative vision for the modern home. Located in a dense urban center, this 1,150-sq.-ft. home stands apart from its neighbors. From the outside in, this cool architecture is inspired – by technology, by contemporary city living, by beautiful shapes and the modern materials that make this design such a stunning showpiece. The reflective facade is complemented by the unique, irregular silhouette. The shape also transforms the interior spaces into artful creations. Simple black beams crisscross the rooms, impossibly balancing the asymmetrical ceilings at a single point. Shape is definitely the centerpiece of this house, and it shines against a clean, minimal palette of white. Strategically placed windows appear as shards of light and sky. Sleek touches add a futuristic element, like the high-polished floors in the kitchen, the modern fixtures, and a simple white staircase that leads up to the floating loft area overhead.
