Minimalist Home Design in California – Open House Concept

This cool, contemporary home design in California features a unique open roof, resembling a box with its lid ajar to expose a modern minimalist interior to the sunny sky. In the design for Surfhouse, XTEN Architecture set their sights on making the most of this equally minimalist plot of land – a small volume of just 23 ft. wide by 29 ft. deep by 30 ft. high – which sits a few short blocks from Hermosa Beach. The box-style house maximizes every inch of available interior space, so the livable areas appear much larger. The natural light flooding the home via the “open” roof visually expands the space as well. The home’s top floor and patios are entirely open as well, offering a private, sunny haven overlooking the busy beach side street below and the Pacific Ocean’s sand and surf. XTEN Architecture
