Kitchen Trends 2009 - “kitchen within a kitchen” concept by Troy Adams Design

Introducing new Kitchen Trends for 2009, by Troy Adams Design ... As a paradigm of entertaining, hostesses of the 60s’ welcomed their guests with an ample dose of hospitality illustrated in their domestic skills, like whipping up multi-course meals and decadent desserts—all while keeping a pristine appearance and even more immaculate home. Fast forward to the present and a new concept for kitchen design has been introduced, which reaps the same result without all the work. The creator of FusionDesign, Interior Designer Troy Adams has become popular for his “kitchen within a kitchen” concept. This philosophy entails an open-plan entertaining kitchen in the main living area with a professional kitchen tucked away behind closed doors. The key is to play up the entertaining kitchen which is sleek, minimalist and high-end and conceal the clutter and preparation aspects in the working kitchen.

Regardless of size, the most important role of the “for show” kitchen is to impress. While, the other kitchen serves as the workhorse. While, a home with just one kitchen could showcase high-end appliances, luxe finishes and upscale cabinetry, it will always be restricted by practicality. Break the kitchen into two and you are left with the best of both worlds.

Shown are some of the products Adams has designed for the "kitchen within a kitchen."

1. Make a functional element appear formal. The TansuChill with Hidden Pantry is a Sub-Zero refrigerator with freezer and built-in wine storage area masked as a piece of high-end, furniture in exotic wood. The hidden walk-in pantry allows for organized storage.

2. His Total Cooktop features a cooktop, microwave, prep sink, and other appliances – but they are disguised in drawers and underneath sliding counters for an aesthetically pleasing design.

troy-adams-design-total-cooktop.jpg

3. The TansuChest is a contemporary piece of furniture that doubles as a butler’s pantry.

troy-adams-design-tansuchest.jpg

4. The HiddenScreen Media Cabinet is designed as a wall mounted flat-screen TV enclosure and media storage space that conceals the television and doubles as a piece of art.

Contemporary Kitchen by Strato - Sliding Island Top and Movable Storage Wall!

stratocucine-kitchen-starto-031-1.jpg

Layer 031 is a contemporary kitchen by Strato that will adjust to your lifestyle. Designed by Marco Gorini, it is composed of two essential blocks: a movable wall and a central island. The geometric, logical design is about ‘desire to share the space and the pleasure of being together’. Gorgeous to look at as well as to use, you’ll love being in this contemporary kitchen. Seamless satin stainless steel and precious fossil oak wood combine perfectly. Fossilised oak is dug up from the ground in areas of deforestation, giving it a rare status in that it does not further deplete living forests. Immense wooden doors hide the work area located within the movable wall, for a tidy, minimalist look. Within, storage abounds. The island top can likewise be contained within a sliding fossil oak top which hides the sink and food preparation area and transforms the kitchen into an ideal venue for a cocktail party! The all-important cooking hood is a cantilevered overhang to the island. By Strato.

Urban Kitchens from Bazzeo - New Gaia kitchen is concealed behind sliding screens

bazzeo-gaia-kitchen-1.jpg

bazzeo-gaia-kitchen-6.jpg

The Gaia urban kitchen from Bazzeo by NYLoft is bursting with creative New York style. It achieves a rare balance between modernity and elegance. The delicate paradox is captured best by the massive panelled wall units which are covered with a light, organic pattern of dandelion clocks. Modular Kitchen from Opinion Ciatti - new Axis

ciatti-kitchen-axis-4.jpg

The new Axis modular kitchen from Opinion Ciatti is for those who relish flexibility. The modular parts of the kitchen are autonomous – meaning you can place them however you want. This highly flexible approach is an antidote to the staid fitted kitchen that always stays the same! It’s rare to see an oven or a kitchen sink installed in such a minimalist setting – not obscured by blocky storage units – but rather within a table element. The two appliances are surrounded by a rectangular worktop and contrasted by a circular table. If you require more storage, look to the independent unit (shown in gold) that is on rollers and can be placed between the modular parts. This daring, modern design is by Marco Duina and Bruno Pozzi for Italian company Opinion Ciatti.

toffini-kitchen-narbe-1.jpg

It’s easy to relax at home with the Narbe kitchen from Toffini. Why? The Narbe kitchen is has a calming, simple and almost Zen-like design. The natural Zebrano wood veneer is so attractively grained that little other detailing is required. The glass backsplash behind the stovetop is not only pretty – it’s safe and quick to clean. The enclosed sink means that you can use the sink area for preparation too – simply slide tempered-glass panels across to create a single surface. The drawers of the Narbe unit are made with a soft-motion system (no more slamming!). The appliances are hidden away from view, making the practical kitchen area a perfect place to entertain too. An enduring design to take into the future with confidence: the Narbe kitchen from Toffini.
