Modern Tree House – Strickland-Ferris Residence

Set on a steep escarpment and surrounded by 150-year-old birch and oak trees in Raleigh, North Carolina, the Strickland-Ferris Residence isn’t your typical home in the woods. Designed by Frank Harmon Architect, this unique 1,800-sq.-ft. home sits high above ground on wood trusses and concrete piers, allowing water to run freely beneath it and appearing as though it’s ready to take flight. The home’s glass-and-steel facade draws a fine line between the raw outdoors and a modern interior, which is finished with glossy cherry-wood floors, exposed wood columns and beams, and a staircase constructed of salvaged steel.
