Interesting India House with Green Volume and Vibrant Interiors

India architecture firm Vatsu Shilpa Consultants renovated and revived this old, abandoned townhouse into something splashy, both in terms of its color and concept. This labor of love started in 2004, and in 2010 the neighboring property was purchased to allow for additional living space for the growing family.
The home’s exterior immediately catches the eye with its crisp white facade topped by a bold green volume.

By removing interior walls and adding connections to the front and rear yards, the architects gave the house an open concept flow flooded with plenty of natural light. Further enhancing the sense of space on this narrow lot, doorways and openings were widened, and peek a boo windows were added to interior walls to further open up the living areas.

We love that the home’s style reflects India’s vibrant culture in a modern way, through the use of bold colors and textiles, and amazing architectural details like asymmetrical doorways, arches, vaults and columns that define living areas in the open floor plan. Varying ceiling heights alternate between a sense of openness and coziness in different spaces.
