Contemporary English House Architecture in Glass

If ever you find yourself strolling along the streets of Wellingborough, England, check out this contemporary English house architecture designed by S. Porobic Associates. This amazing glass wall house is quite the sight. The architects were commissioned to redesign an existing structure – part of a group of church buildings dating back to the 12th century – and set the start of a renewal of this urban area. Because of the sad state of the structure, the architects opted to gut the place and start afresh. Some of the original elements were incorporated into the new design and contrasted with modern, high-end materials, each highlighting its opposing end of the style spectrum. Two striking sets of stairs anchor this modern glass home plan and provide sculptural focal points to interiors. This urban house is flooded with natural light, thanks to a vertical and horizontal “light axes” cutting through the building. The architects also replaced solid doors with glass woods, and placed additional windows throughout. The glass roof with colored panels adds a contemporary touch. A patio extending off the main floor adds a nice outdoor entertaining area while connecting interiors to the city streets. S. Porobic Associates
