Contemporary Concrete Cottage Where Man and Nature Collide

With warmer days on the horizon, the great summertime escape is on the brain. Here’s a little tour of an unusual weekend retreat that defies all definitions of a humble, rustic “cottage.” Two of the world’s most powerful forces collide in this inspired concrete house: man versus nature. Yet, the two seem to sing in perfect harmony here. This bold but natural house design works wonderfully with its woody surroundings and the lake lapping at the shoreline just steps away, putting raw earth and modern architecture within arm’s reach – now, this is our idea of an ideal cottage getaway! The massive sliding glass walls provide a barely-there boundary between the wild and our creature comforts, a line that is further blurred by the use of an earthy palette inside. Cool grays and stoney concrete have an unrefined simplicity, overlooking the warm wood deck (which is purposely punctured by trees!) running the length of the house and capturing a bit of the great outdoors within its living space. Interiors are open, but areas are clearly defined through the use of partial walls, windows, and exceptional focal points like the cozy fireplace in the living-room nook. No matter where you find yourself in this forest home, a fab view is always in sight.
