Canada Glass House – LightHouse by Toronto studio

This Canada glass house came to us courtesy of architect Andrew Reeves, of Toronto-based LineBox Studio Inc. Dubbed the LightHouse, this contemporary house is a beacon of light among its woody surroundings. Due to its awkward site – kidney-shaped, wedged between a parking lot and a 40-ft. escarpment – the architect positioned a north-facing glass wall, which satisfied the desire for sunlight and natural views as well as the need for privacy. Inside, the home’s 5,400 sq. ft. of living space feels like much more, thanks to the expansive glass walls. Traditional closed and open concept areas are stacked and staggered in a vertical house style; a layout of dropped rooms and the elevated 22-ft. great room, adding interest to inspiration. The maple floors are warm to the look and to the touch – thanks to radiant-floor heating throughout! A staircase winds its way up a glass enclosed volume, creating the illusion of walking among the treetops as you ascend. And for loft design ideas, check out the upper office space. “Shaped by the unique site conditions and the lifestyle of a busy modern family, Lighthouse addresses the need for both privacy and connectivity. It balances freshness with warmth, contrasts natural with urban and celebrates a rare rural oasis within Ottawa’s city centre,” said Reeves. LineBox Studio Inc.
