How does a dip in New York’s East River sound? You may change your tune when you see this latest innovation in water play, dubbed the Floating Pool Lady. The maker of this newfangled novelty, the Neptune Foundation, was inspired by 19th century floating baths, and put the idea into action right in the heart of New York City. In 1999, Jonathan Kirschenfeld Associates was recruited by the Neptune Foundation to bring this floating vision to life. This ultra-modern, traveling pool sits embedded in an 80-by-260-ft. barge, complete with locker rooms, bathrooms, showers, a spray pool and a snack bar, gathered surrounding the 25-meter, seven-lane swimming pool, which can accommodate up to 170 swimmers at one time.
