Next Stop: Contemporary Train Station in Alicante, Spain

Subarquitectura has designed a stop-dead-in-your-tracks train station in Alicante, Spain. The ultra-modern architectural expression of urban art becomes a public area complete with benches and greenspace. This contemporary structure also serves to connect all the coastal towns, with the train making its final stop in the northern city of Denia, from which ships depart to Ibiza. “Through a fractal access system deformed in each side to avoid the existing trees, the travelers can arrive in a frontal way to the platform in 32 different possibilities,” according to the architects. The train station is composed to two separate volumes 36 meters long, 3 meters wide and 2.5 meters in height. Throughout the boxes, strategically placed holes allow for the passage of light and air, and at night, transforming the station into a light-art installation at the heart of the city. Subarquitectura
