Modernized 19th Century House With a Contemporary Timber Extension

This new extension from Ola Studio could be its own contemporary house. In reality, it’s a part of a modernized 19th century house with Italianate Victorian masonry. The two are complete opposites, but the black roof of the original building ties them together quite nicely.

Boasting a box-like structure, the new house block includes an open plan kitchen with a dining area and a living area that sits close to the sliding glass doors that can immediately create an indoor/outdoor atmosphere.

Built with the contemporary modern approach, the lower level of the new house features glass walls partially protected by exterior timber screens. The upper levels are more private, and have only regular and letterbox windows.

White plaster walls contrast not only with the black exterior and frames but also extensive natural wood that covers the floors as well as makes up the entire kitchen.

A small old fence separates the house from the street, and creates some private outdoor space for backyard use. The house’s facade structure creates an additional wooden terrace to make the outdoor lounging more convenient.
