Lake Cabin Design with an amazing open concept layout

Seattle architect Nils Finne has redefined the coastal home, taking it from rustic to rich in this lake cabin design – a beauty on Lake Superior at Eagle Harbor, at the north of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Set on a forested three-acre property, this waterfront retreat features a magnificent 40-ft. wall of glass that frames the lake view. The 2,000-sq.-ft. cabin cantilevers over the water, creating the feeling of being within nature, as opposed to just looking at it from the inside out. Exposed ceiling beams are cottage chic, complemented by warm woods that add to the home’s natural allure. The cabin is designed with two main volumes – an open-concept living/dining/kitchen area, and two-story sleeping quarters with a kids’ bedroom on the ground floor and the parents’ master loft above. To finish this home with a true custom touch, the architect designed the unique dining table, coffee table and cabinets using eco-friendly, FSC-certified “plyboo” – a plywood-bamboo combination.
