Located in Wandi, a suburb of Perth Australia is a home designed by Webb & Brown-Neaves. The home is filled with contemporary warmth that is inviting, cozy and elegant all at the same time. The designers accomplished this by creating a palette of earth tones combined with a variety of textures running the gamut of smoothly polished to rough and weathered. The family room is a prime example of how textures and warm shades can create a sophisticated and warm aesthetic.

The family room features a deep sofa layered with pillows and a throw blanket to create the perfect place to curl up and watch a movie or game. While the sofa vignette is a cool shade of pale greys, the rustic coffee table, occasional chairs and checkered area rug layer in earth tones as does the wood media console beneath the TV.

The upholstered chairs around the dining table are as cozy as the sofa in the family room next to it, and here too is a rustic element that is even more textured then the coffee table was. The element is of course the three-dimensional wood block fireplace facade. The various angles and depths of the blocks create a relief pattern of shadows only enhanced by the flickering flames of the fire within.

On the other side of the two-sided fireplace is the lower sitting room – and it really is lower by a couple of steps. What’s really cool about this space is the way the vertical log detail is identical in size to that of the horizontal fireplace.

While the dining room is between the family and lower sitting rooms, the kitchen is to the side of it. Here wood detailing is brought in via the lower cabinets and the bar table and while the dining room fireplace is off to the side, it’s the outdoor fireplace that is most visible from the bar.

The outdoor fireplace is just one of the amazing design details of the terrace. Here – just as with the sitting room – is a sunken sitting area as well as covered outdoor dining area and a small tree garden.

There is also a tiered herb garden on the other side of the sunken sitting area easily accessed by the kitchen.

With fire, earth and air all prevalent in the outdoor zones, it was almost a necessity to add in the element of water which was cleverly incorporated within the large clay vessel featured in the tree garden.

While the side terrace outside of the dining room is too small to include a traditional garden, Webb & Brown-Neaves still layered in the greenery with a living wall.

The master suite is on the main floor located at the front of the house and it includes a large walk through closet that leads to the ensuite.

The ensuite features a rustic wood plank look tile on its floor as well as on the wall behind the vanity. Juxtaposed against the white vanity and fixtures, the white grout used between the tile boards was the perfect choice.

The Brindabella has a self-contained upper that has an optional kitchenette and laundry facilities as well as a cozy sitting area. It’s the perfect in-law or guest suite with its close proximity to the main living area.

The 3 upstairs bedrooms are all spacious.

The stairwell connecting the two floors is located just past the foyer on the main level and just off to the side of the upper sitting room.
