Subtle Interior Design by Geneto explores grooves as decor feature

Less is more, and that is precisely what the subtle interior design of this Geneto-designed Tokyo apartment embodies. Named “AZB”, it occupies 45 square metres of cozy space. The team behind this interior project faced many structural challenges due to its rental state, making form and function of paramount importance. Geneto, however, provides a wonderful solution by employing screens as a space-saver to conceal, reveal, and to make the spatial delineation between various functions of this residence. Most of the vertical surfaces have been marked with grooves, providing both subtle details and substantial depth to the interior space. The grooves are inspired by a traditional Japanese art called fusuma, which is “the art of decorating room dividing panels with scenes of nature to create the impression that one is living outdoors enveloped in nature”. For AZB, a balance of mountain and urban scenery is used as inspiration for the shapes of the grooves. More information on this and other works from this Japanese architecture firm is available on their website, Geneto.
