Shade Cloth Covers the Entire Courtyard. But can you see it?

This shade cloth covers the entire courtyard. Can you see it? That’s the idea – it lets in the light but keeps out those harmful UV rays. And insects, let’s not forget the insects. The home is in sub-tropical Brisbane, Australia and designed by James Russell Architect. Russell’s philosophy of design tries to blur the line between interior and exterior, between inside and outside. Oxlade Drive house has two volumes, connected by the interior patio, which is draped in the next-to-invisible skin. The sunlight filters through but the insects don’t. And looking up at the clouds, you don’t even notice the barrier. Come on over for dinner – we’ll throw another shrimp on the barbie!
