Ruins Renovation in Italy’s Salento

Prepare yourself for some ‘ooh-ing’ and ‘aww-ing’ when you see this fabulous renovation of ruins in Italy’s Salento – turned into a modern, raw and romantic home. By adding modern decor to restored 18th century ruins, an awesome contrast is created sure to amaze anyone seeing it. When the owner of this home found this place, he fell in love with it not so much for the architectural or artistic value (in actual fact, it was quite poorly constructed), but for its ability of expression, representative of the character and culture of that region. Immediately, he knew that the renovation was to preserve the impression this special place had in its original days. And so, the original buildings were restored and rebuilt and connected by passageways to unify the home. Sharp edges and disruptions were avoided, instead paying more attention to light flow, using simple shapes, curves and gently sloping ramps to accentuate the idea of spatial continuity. As mentioned, the decor and furniture choices contrast the space so well – enhancing its beauty and turning into a stylish home in modern times.
