Estudio Guto Requena has created a real urban style interior design in Sao Paulo. Exposed concrete, concrete spiral stairs, fully white tiled kitchen, bright yellow dining table, zig zag fluorescents, vintage decor, wood paneled ceilings, special ambient lighting, ultra modern pieces alongside shabby ones, pink rubber duckies, an out of this world shower and a secret bathroom in the master suite - this apartment is just overflowing with unique ideas and fun details. It's a hip, relaxed yet highly stylish sort of interior - gritty and glamorous design all at once.

Fun Kids Room Designs by Dan Pearlman

The fun kids room designs you see here were created by Dan Pearlman for the kids' psychiatry ward at a German hospital - a great example of thoughtful, appropriate and wellness promoting design. Architects worked along with doctors to devise this interior concept that facilitates communication and promotes comfort and enjoyment. The goal is to avoid this clinical atmosphere and instead introduce color and life. The color scheme is what struck me right away. On a backdrop of neutral colors, green, orange and blue play the major roles. With good reason, too. Green, orange and blue are all colors that have been linked to calmness, healing and cooperation - the perfect message you want to be sending in such a space. Notice there is no purple or fire engine red. Purple is an introspective color and bright red is very exciting - so you can see these are not appropriate colors for this environment. Next, the furniture choices are great - soft, curved, modular, playful - allowing for an adaptable, safe, and lively yet comfortable environment. These room designs are so great, and really appropriate for any kid - in a hospital, at home or at school.

Colorful Apartment Ideas from Barcelona

It's the colorful personality of this Barcelona apartment that jumps out at you first, and that offers many interesting ideas. All kinds of lively hues coexisting harmoniously with each other and with the equally lively diversity of patterns and shapes. It would be safe to assume that this design combination may end up looking a bit chaotic, but the neutral white walls and tall ceilings of this space help to keep things in check. If you look carefully, you'll see that all the bold colors and patterns come mainly from the decor (rugs, pillows, art...) - most of the furniture is white and neutral with the exception of a few accent pieces. You could spend quite some time absorbing all the details here. For example, it took me a little while to discover it and I don't want you to miss it, but notice the pattern on the stairs? Upon further inspection (on the architect's website), I realized that the only the tread holds the pattern, which is then reflected by the mirrored risers. That's right, the risers are covered by mirror. It's a great idea that impacts the whole room. This very interesting space was designed by Miel Architects.

Elegant Curtain Design for a Modern Home

The curtain design in this modern home gives it a real elegant vibe, even though it's clearly quite a simple concept. The long, sheer, flowing curtains (found consistently throughout the home) create this soft drama and unify the individual spaces. The curtains frame some extremely beautiful views, while at the same time responding to the breezes, blurring the distinction between the outdoors and the interior. The space is open, transparent and flowing - that feeling is enhanced but the curtains ... they play a big role. Imagine the spaces without them. See? This sophisticated home was designed by Burgers Architecture Inc.

Wow Factor Kitchen Design

Sometimes there's an image that just captures your attention and you are instantly in awe - like this kitchen design displaying major wow factor. A shiny pink backsplash against the clean white linear kitchen. The orchid ties in perfectly and that funky, yet delicate chandelier is quite something. This kitchen shows that modern minimal need not be boring and cold. This design is totally fun (mr. octopus seems to agree) , in an elegant, sort of grown up way. We are really enjoying it. This kitchen and the house it belongs to was designed by Metaform.

Red Interior Design Inspiration

With Valentine's day around the corner, we thought you might enjoy some red interior design inspiration. Red in the home can be such an amazing color but admittedly it can be a hard decision to realize. Red is bold. Done right, it can be passionate, dramatic, lively. Done wrong, it can be aggravating or overly stimulating. There are many ways to introduce red into a space - choose a few decor items or pieces of furniture (chair, rug, curtains, pillows, art, light fixtures, etc.) that will introduce pops of red. Or incorporate it more fully into your decor scheme using some of the aforementioned items and walls of floors (paint, wallpaper, wall panels, etc). And remember, there are many different shades of red, each with its own unique feeling - so choose the one that is right for your space. These images focus on the more traditional idea of red, but all of them show lovely ways of inviting red into an interior space.

Nature Inspired Bathroom Design

A bathroom design inspired by nature is likely to result in a calming, balanced environment, ideal for relaxation and rejuvenation. The color scheme is green and beige - reminding us of sand and leaves. The sinks resemble giant smooth pebbles and the leaf carpets are quite obvious. But besides the decor and furnishings, the lighting scheme in this space is exceptional and very much responsible for the calm vibe. This use of indirect lighting sets the perfect mood and reminds us of ripples in a pond. Also, I'm a huge fan of mosaics in a bathroom - so this space won me over in an instant. What do you think?

This holiday home in Australia has a very unique tubular type construction with a fascinating round window on one end, that makes for a very interesting interior feel. It seems the perfect place for a luxurious adventure. The tubular design of the house, reminiscent of a massive boiler, and the window, which resembles a big gear, pays tribute to the family's long time involvement with a sugar mill. We love how smartly designed and functional the window is, incorporating beautiful wooden shutters in the design. The white walls maximize light reflection, keeping the space as bright as possible, the floors and trim are made of wood which cozies everything up. Overall, one of the most intriguing interiors we have seen in a while. The home was designed by SImon Laws Anthill Construction.

Contemporary Asian Style Home in Japan

"House S" is a beautiful, contemporary, Asian style home designed by Studio Keiji Ashizawa in Japan. The floor plan was dictated by the availability of natural light and organic flow of air. The interior is quite minimal and furnishings stay true to Asian tradition. The wood slat panelling is breathtaking and adds such character to the interior. The staircase design is fabulous - all modern and streamlined, spiraled at one end and totally linear on the other. The house also encompasses a giant glassed in terrarium housing a single majestic tree on a mound of moss and surrounded by pebbles. In this way, nature is brought into the home for all to enjoy while increasing availability of natural light. Wonderful.

Soft and Stark Living Room Interior

We see a complete contradiction in this living room interior - parts of the design are soft and sweet and others are stark and strong. Somehow it works. The space feels like it has a lot of personality - like you could feel in any mood here, just pick something to focus on. The black wall makes a very strong statement, highlighted by an orange side strip that matches the color of the wallpaper flowers and ties them together. The wallpaper and the black wall, side by side, are so contrasting. The area rug and the spherical pendant light mirror each other in feeling and also embody this sort or soft/stark quality of the room. The coffee table definitely plays for the stark team. All the white is good in a room like this - it neutralizes it somewhat and acts like a good backdrop for all the action happening here. The sofas are cushy and cozy and the soft furnishings are fun and lively. Very interesting space - a bit modern, a bit Scandinavian, a bit global.

Ensuite Bathroom Design: true to the idea

We are loving this master bedroom with a truly ensuite bathroom design. Really, it doesn't get more ensuite than this - with a tub and two sinks right at the back of the room (although we are quite glad the toilet is located elsewhere). This room is part of the Martel Loft, designed by Antonio Virga, situated in the 10th arrondissement in Paris. The apartment is located in what used to be a clothing factory. The floors have been sanded and refinished, the walls are beautifully stark white, adorned with glorious steel framed windows. At the back, Virga designed some dark stained wood cabinetry against which the freestanding tub and double pedestal sinks really pop. The bed is situated casually in the center of the room. And yes, although this room feels sort of casual, it also feels quite elegant - it showcases a unique design approach with an understated style. Great room.

Romantic Bedroom with DIY Photo Idea

Apart from being a joy to look at, this romantic bedroom is whispering to us about a little DIY photo idea. A collage is not a new idea, clearly. But it's the mood of this room and this little project that fit very well together. The walls look raw and injured and this disorderly grouping of unsaturated images seems to suit the mood. The bed, its dressings and other furniture do a great job of splashing some luxury and shine into this room balancing out the grit and glamour for a perfectly romantic and nostalgic bedroom feel.

Modern Home with Cool Hues and Classical Accents

We really enjoy the mix of this modern home's cool hues and classical accents. Designed by Christina Yorkston, this home has a highly modish elegant vibe. The backdrop for everything is neutral and bright and layered with some blues that vary in feel, from royal to calm to lively. The ornate gilt frames provide a sharp, chic contrast, as do their artistic contents and a few classical furnishings. It's a lovely home, well put together - soft, airy and minimal but certainly not lacking in style.

Portuguese Interior Design: Lively and Modern

The back drop to the interior design of this Portuguese home is modern and clean, but it is the furnishings and accessories that make it so lively and dynamic. The color scheme is mainly warm, colors influenced by yellow and orange and red - giving the whole place this cozy, friendly vibe. There are a wide range of patterns and textures throughout that make the space quite dynamic and exciting - floral prints, geometric prints, marble, carpet, mirror, wood, fur ... so much to see and feel and enjoy. I can't get my eyes off the ceilings, though. They're so beautiful. This home was designed by Oitoemponto.

Open Plan Design Living Areas in Singapore

Wowy! This amazing open plan design in Singapore was just begging to be shared here. The whole house is amazing, but we are zero-ing in on the open plan living areas design. The bookcase, the different levels which integrate seating, the windows, ceiling beams, the kitchen area, the dining table, the cool, modern color scheme warmed by wooden details - all of it is just so ... well... amazing. There's a totally understated luxury here. You feel at home and cozy, yet you feel as though in the presence of greatness.
