Fun and Cozy Library Design by YTA

unique-multimedia-library-work-space-2.jpg

Books and digital media live happily together in this fun and cozy library and work space designed by YTA. The library has a playful, industrial aesthetic, with pine wood boards, concrete blocks and an exposed lighting scheme. Some fun art and colorful decor are peppered throughout. It’s a space where one can read, write, work or lounge back on those cozy oversized seats and enjoy some visual media. Yet with all the technology incorporated into this design, it’s nice to see some vintage tributes here and there - like an old telephone, typewriter or mini tube tv. Overall this room displays an eclectic mix of modern, industrial and vintage styles. We quite like it.

Staircase and Library Nook Design Combination

staircase-library-nook-design-combination-1.jpg

There’s something about books and a staircase that just seem to fit well together and this staircase / library nook design combination is working fantastically for us. It seems like the sweetest little corner - a very clever way of turning potentially wasted space into something valuable. The bookcase behind the Eames rocker serves also as a separation from the study that exists back there. The windows above the books are grandiose and provide great natural light, much needed for reading. At the top of the stairs, the kitchen overlooks this library nook and has wonderful views through the window. The walls and ceiling are great too, right? We threw in an image of the fireplace in the kitchen at the end because it’s so awesome. More treats for the eyes never hurts. Plus, it’s what you would se first coming up those steps. The whole place was designed by Bunq Architectes.

Outside the box - extravagant interior ideas by Novogratz

outside-box-extravagant-interior-ideas-1.jpg

Sometimes extravagant interior ideas require more than ‘thinking’ outside the box - in this case ‘entry’ from outside the box was necessary. This item was actually brought into the ‘box’, the home, with a crane during construction before the windows went up. It is the unrestrained Adid Aziz Desk in the home and master bedroom of none other than the Novogratz family. The husband and wife design duo are known for their modern eclectic taste, so given the context, it is not surprising to see this desk in their home. Also a nice reminder of how striking statement pieces play such an important role in self expression in interior spaces.

Library / Reading Nook

library-reading-nook-1.jpg

A reading nook incorporated into the library is a very charming idea, especially when you have a large window with a glorious view. Surrounded by tall shelves, filled with books, instantly induces a sense of coziness. But grand window or not, this idea is a great one for making use of a narrow space, that otherwise might be wasted due to its awkward size. So if you have a small narrow space you don’t know what to do with, consider setting up a cozy bench (preferably with storage capabilities) and keeping it company with some tall bookshelf companions.

Interior Bookcase Design: a Modern Focal Feature

interior-bookcase-design-simon-couchman-architects-1.JPG

You've heard of a built-in bookcase, but this interior bookcase design is a modern architectural feature that the room was actually designed around. Elsternwick House, designed by Simon Couchman Architects, features this fab built-in piece that follows the home’s roofline, bordered by windows that frame this contemporary room feature. Depending on what you display – whether toys, sophisticated odds and ends or your favorite collectibles – the look can go from fun and funky to refined and designed to a T. We especially love the bookcase’s mismatched shelves, staggered for added interest. This cool bookcase idea certainly makes this interior design.
