Sustainable Home Design Blends Architecture and Nature

This contemporary, sustainable home design has turned a few heads for its clean lines and simple composition. But simple isn’t an apt description of this modern, innovative home. Designed by architect DiMella Shaffer, Kolare Private Residence, what was once a 650-sq.-ft. bungalow underwent an amazing transformation into what is now a spectacular 2,000-sq.-ft. sustainable home at one with its surroundings. Two tall trees form the welcome to this contemporary structure, and in respect of their imposing presence, the architect integrated the trees into the home’s design. A deck surrounding the trees provides a permeable surface to promote the trees presence as an element of the house. The design offers natural lighting and ventilation inside the house, while a green roof further solidifies the home’s connection to its environment. DiMella Shaffer.
