Mountain Home Design in Switzerland mimics the mountains

Talk about a slanted view of modern architecture! Nunatak Architectes have designed this unusual mountain home in Switzerland - Zufferey House - from a totally different perspective – one that is not necessarily about “futuristic” design, but innovation in the way the traditional house is perceived. Inspired by the mountain on which it’s built, this cool, slanted structure appears as though it’s sinking into the earth, or rising from it, depending on how you look at it! The sloping walls and roof of this block-shaped home are painted grey to further mimic the stone of the mountains. A modern, minimalist interior incorporates a sleek, contemporary kitchen and large windows and natural wood finishes. Nunatak Architectes

Modern Cedar House in Vermont Mountains

Kyu Sung Woo Architects – the brains behind iconic designs like the 1988 Olympics Athletes’ Village, the Asian Culture Complex in Gwangju, Korea, and a collection of cultural, museum and university structures – bring this cedar sided Putney Mountain House to Vermont. Set on the slope of the mountain, the site’s densely wooded terrain and striking, sweeping views are the inspiration behind this back-to-nature house design. Three separate volumes complement the landscape, arranged in a clearing with mountain views to the west and meadows to the south. The architects have brought a new, modern look to traditional Vermont architecture and building materials. Red cedar siding and corrugated steel panels form the facade, which is punctuated with wide windows and outdoor living areas. Interiors are minimal, with the focus on the view. In the kitchen and dining space, a sliding glass wall extends these well-used interiors into the great outdoors. Kyu Sung Woo Architects

Mountainside Home in Mexico - amazing futuristic design lets you relax on your own roof ...

Designed by Productora, this modern mountainside home is ideally situated on a northern Mexico golf club. Partially buried beneath the mountain’s slope, House in Chihuahua has a self-regulating climate control that naturally accommodates the drastic 20-degree drop from day to night. From the outside, the house is a curious sight, with shards of glass framed in a white facade enclosed by grass and earth. Inside, the modern house features living spaces with massive windows that open onto outdoor patios and rooftop decks, providing natural lighting, passive ventilation, and spectacular views from every room. The home innovative roof is designed as one continuous line that inclines up the mountainside. Productora

Mountain Chalet is built into the mountain, for a snowboarding pro Marc Morisset

Canadian architecture firm Studio NminusOne gets a big plus for creativity when it comes to its unique residential designs, namely Khyber Ridge Residence - a mountain chalet located in picturesque Whistler, British Columbia. This 3,000-sq.-ft., three-bedroom chalet designed by the Toronto-based team for snowboard pro Marc Morisset blends unconventional, eccentric elements into a unique “floating” design. This contemporary residence is enclosed in walls of windows, placing it inconspicuously among the trees and mountains. Inside the contemporary glazed walls, this five-storey chalet cascades down the mountainside, exuding elegance at every turn. Rock walls really make you feel as though you’re a part of something truly majestic. Clean, modern lines and simple furnishings that border on art complete the look. Studio NminusOne

Rustic Mountain Cabin in WA - simple and cozy

Surrounded by the serenity of the evergreen forest and snow-capped mountains of its Winthrop, Washington location, the rustic Methow Cabin designed by Eggleston Farkas Architects offers the indulgence of simplicity. This nature retreat serves as a base for cross-country skiing by winter and mountain biking in the summer, making this a veritable nature-lovers retreat. The cabin itself is built in line with the slope of the valley, its main facade pointing toward the great peaks. The structure itself is in shed style, allowing the snow to slide off the roof. Like its exterior, the cabin interior is all wood, giving it a cozy, rustic look. A loft is occupied by the sleeping quarters, overlooking the living area complete with a wood-burning stove.
