Studio MK27 is the architecture firm behind Panama House, an exotic open concept home in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A signature of architect Marcio Kogan, the home boasts a low-profile shape and an open-concept gallery-type space that’s still intimate without being "stuffy". Each of the three storeys becomes a display for the homeowner’s contemporary Brazilian art collection. The expansive windows invite the outdoors in, while sliding wood panels offer the option of privacy while controlling light exposure to the prized collection of paintings and sculptures. The vertical grain of the windows screens complements the long lines of the wooden deck and the strong horizontal presence of the house itself. Studio MK27

This modern contemporary home designed by Australia’s Wright Architects is as exotic as its location, steps from the beach of Port Douglas. The only thing that rivals this picturesque property is the contemporary design of the house itself, which subtly infuses water influences into its bold concrete, steel and core-filled clay brick masonry. Wooden “waves” make their way down from the home’s roof, leading to a refreshing salt-water lap pool wrapped in a wooden deck. Beneath the waves and overlooking the pool, and wall of glass blurs the boundary between the outdoors and the sleek, modern interiors. Overlooking the garden and decks, an open-concept kitchen and various living areas make the most of this lush setting. And just when you thought this gorgeous home couldn’t get any better, architect Charles Wright also designed it with sustainability in mind, featuring passive cooling and a double-insulated roof cavity to reduce heat absorption. Dubbed Helal New Moon Residence, no luxury has been spared in this stunning modern home, located in the United Arab Emirates and designed by Erlich Architects. Boasting ornate details, lavish finishes and rich features at every turn, this 35,000-sq.-ft. home is an oasis of super luxury pools, manicured gardens and modern architecture in the Persian Gulf desert. The architect combined the country’s Islamic roots with modern technology and a keen eye for the contemporary. A striking, distinctive roof takes shape as a shimmering-aluminum crescent moon – the symbol of new life – hovering above a series of two-storey structures. Supporting the roof, stone-clad columns penetrate it and reach up toward the sky. “The whole structure suggests a giant Bedouin tent, with the football-field-sized roof, cantilevered 30 feet on each side, casting a giant swathe of shade,” as described by Erlich Architects. At the entrance, an intricate lattice casts wonderful sunlit patterns onto interiors. A reflecting pool flows inside, where the extravagance surpasses the imaginable. It truly is paradise on Earth.
