Hydraulic Roof Opens and Closes At Will in This First of a Kind House

Wow. Here we have a first-of-a-kind house where the hydraulic roof opens and closes at will. But that’s not the only wow, or the only futuristic feature. Check out that spiral staircase – it’s a work of art. It was built to suggest a red flowing evening dress. And we love how the bold color is picked up around the room. And the white rock walls – it’s built into the rocky edge of the sea. Built into marble, to be more specific. The home was designed by Belgian-born Michel Boucquillon, one of Europe’s rising stars. But back to the hydraulic roof for a moment. The wings open like a butterfly, 30 degrees on each side. This allows for ventilation to cool the house in the summer, but also provides a nighttime view of the stars. Throw in an olive grove – all of this in Tuscany, by the way – and we think we’re in heaven.
