Circular Concrete Home Plan

Designed by Toyo Ito & Associates, this concrete home in Marbella, Chile makes for a marvelous weekend retreat. Named for its unusual floor plan and crisp, stand-out color, this contemporary home dubbed "White O House" takes the form of a huge O, with a central circular courtyard at its heart. This modern concrete home plan spirals its way around a central garden. This cool courtyard house design offers outdoor entertaining areas with privacy, overlooked by sliding-glass-walled interior rooms. A large living area leads into a dining room, connecting to the courtyard. The continuous circular floor plan leads up to the bedrooms and bathrooms, which offer complete privacy on the second level. Concrete Urban Design in China imitates brick

Known for their innovative use of traditional materials – namely brick – Atelier Zhanglei created this concrete urban design, the Slit House, as an ode to custom with an eye looking toward the future. This urban house design in Nanjing, China was modeled after the adjacent homes dating back to the 1920s, only with a cool, contemporary twist. In place of grey brick, the architect opted for concrete in an abstract form. Strips of wood two inches wide were used for the concrete formwork, giving the concrete a wonderful texture reminiscent of a fine textile. The 2,900-sq.-ft. house boasts a zigzag of glass that characterizes its urban exterior while illuminating the interior. Atelier Zhanglei

Vacation House Design - rustic concrete cottage built for minimal maintenance

Casa XS is a modern vacation house design by architects Maria Victoria Besonias, Guillermo de Almeida and Luciano Kruk of BAK Arquitectos. Located in the seaside resort city of Mar Azul, just outside of Buenos Aires, Argentina, this contemporary yet rustic concrete cottage is surrounded by lush forest, beach and dunes. In designing this house, the architects aimed to seek out building materials with minimal maintenance, minimal environmental impact, and maximum visual effect. The result blends seamlessly with its spectacular natural environment. This cottage features a cool blend of concrete and quebracho wood for its facade, yielding an industrial-cum-country style, interrupted by expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that invite these amazing views and plenty of natural light. The concrete that characterizes this modern cottage's exterior also dominates the interior, giving this quiet vacation house a cool, urban edge. BAK Arquitectos

Intriguing Concrete Design for a residential home

Haus Bold certainly makes a bold and modern statement in its Germany setting. Designed by Thomas Bendel Architekt, this contemporary style house of prefabricated concrete takes shape as a simple cube structure, punctuated by walls of glass and anodized aluminum facades at the front and rear. This modern, industrial-chic style is carried inside, where concrete is the material of choice for walls and ceilings, giving interiors this same cool, contemporary aesthetic. For floors the architect created a raw yet refined look with textured, polished stone tiles. Leading up to the second level, a 10-meter-long concrete staircase boasts a steel-plate handrail. Above it, a large skylight floors the stairwell with natural light, giving the whole home a wonderful rightness you wouldn't expect. Finished are ultra-chic, ultra-modern - check out the all-black kitchen, the stainless steel powder room, and the luxury master bath with a sunken tub! Large windows flood every room with sunlight and provide views of the grassy landscape outside. Thomas Bendel Architekt

India House Design with Amazing Exterior Walls and Courtyard

Set on a corner within a dense urban centre in Bangalore, India, this modern home by Indian architecture firm Cadence says so much, without screaming. Dubbed Out of the Box, a simple cube style and a white facade could be described as unassuming, if not for the unusual perforations which adorn the house, and the contemporary staircase that leads up to the entrance. Traditionally known in India as “jali walls,” apart from adding architectural interest these perforated walls also serve to passively cool and ventilate the house. The leaf-motif holes within these concrete exterior walls cast whimsical spots of sunlight onto an indoor courtyard. Typical courtyard home plans put this outdoor/indoor space at the center of the home, but in this innovative architectural design it is moved to the northwest corner at the front of the house. Surprises await at every turn in this stunning, modern home. From the courtyard, floor-to-ceiling glass doors welcome residents and their guests into a comfortable yet contemporary home. Cadence
