Seaside Home Design in Portugal - simply black and white

This contemporary seaside home design by Portuguese architect Paulo David is also referred to as “black and white house,” named for its opposing color palettes of black of the exterior and white interiors. You could say this home is minimalist living at its most. Views from this seaside home are always at hand here in Funchal of Madeira, Portugal. On the outside, this cool design boasts a simple, squared shape and a minimal black facade punctuated by large windows. This slope home plan sits on a plateau with a concrete wall behind it, while before it, endless views unfold. The main level houses the living areas and extends into the outdoors. Upstairs, the two towers house the bedrooms and are connected by a glazed living area. The contemporary style house features a minimalist interior with a palette of pure, unadulterated white. This white palette not only contrasts the structure’s black exterior, but it amplifies the light inside the home. Paulo David

Beach House Design Ideas from Peru - frame the sunsets!

This cool beach house on Palabritas Beach in Lima, Peru was designed by Peruvian architect Jose Orrego. This modern beach house design idea was actually conceived to frame the breathtaking beach-front property and the spectacular sunsets every night. This unusual, low-profile architecture of this luxury coastal cottage design keeps the house intimate, but ultra-contemporary touches really make it stand apart from the rest. The gentle curves of the elevated box structure are open to the outdoors, inviting openness without sacrificing privacy. A minimalist white facade is punctuated by vivid, red accents like the tiled swimming pool and punchy furnishings, drawing the eye to the home's main social spaces. Sliding glass doors create a versatile, indoor-outdoor design in this beachfront home, opening the living and dining room to the terrace for al fresco entertaining when weather permits. On the flip-side, an indoor patio unifies the bedrooms and the family room. Jose Orrego

Waterfront House Designs by Modern Seattle Architect

Packed onto a 24-by-28-ft. footprint, the Lobster Boat Residence by Seattle's Chadbourne + Doss Architects takes an unusual inspiration for its equally unusual style. This 2,380-sq.-ft. waterfront house design on Portage Bay in Seattle is fittingly situated within a condominium community of four detached homes and a pair of houseboats, all sharing waterfront access, parking, utilities and a garden. This house strong vertical appeal is presented in a rustic looking, cedar-clad design of 5 floors topped by a rooftop deck with a view of the Bay. “Materials are purposefully honest and hard working,” according to the architect. Interiors boast a seaside charm in their raw wood staircase and exposed ceiling beams, coupled with contemporary details like built-in shelving and an open, airy open-concept floor plan. Abundant windows brighten up interiors with natural sunlight while providing wonderful views. Chadbourne + Doss Architects

Beach House Design – T-shaped house plans by Pete Bossley Architects

Multi-award winning architect Pete Bossley adds another winner to his list with a contemporary beach house design that's made to relax, and inspire. Okitu House at Tatapouri Point in New Zealand is the epitome of cool. With views of both bay and ocean, this amazing hilltop beach house sits above its pristine, lush surroundings, clinging to the ground with its casual, low-profile form. This beachfront bungalow was designed, at the clients' request, to be large enough to accommodate extended family, yet still maintain a cozy appearance. The architect used an innovative, T-shaped plan to give it space while delivering that sense of comfort that’s typically lost in large houses. This beach home design boasts two wings that provide plenty of room while affording privacy, and allow for a wonderful covered outdoor living area with a view of the water through the glass-enclosed, see-through living room inside. The home’s transparency opens it up to the outdoors, making the spectacular view its true focal point. Pete Bossley Architects Inc.

Beachfront Luxury Homes of Wood, Stone and Glass

When the architects at Bayden Goddard Design created this beachfront luxury home located on Australia’s Gold Coast, it’s no doubt that this Albatross Avenue site – with adjoining parkland to the south and breathtaking beachfront to the east – had a deep impact on this nature-infused design. A grand facade of recycled timber, stone and widespread glazing is the perfect complement to the landscape. Sliding-glass walls encircle the ground floor for a luxury “view-through” floor plan offering outside access from every room. Inside, a glazed hallway encircles a central courtyard, delivering additional access to the outdoors. The piece de resistance has got to be main living room, boasting a 25-meter wall of glass and panoramic views of sun, surf and sand. Here, multiple dining, living and lounging “nooks” bring variety and versatility to traditional floor plan. A kitchen of marble and timber makes a warm and welcoming hub of the home. But if there’s still a chill in the air, the modern fireplace, tucked at the base of a natural sandstone wall, will do just the trick. Upstairs, bedrooms boast ocean views. The home’s beach-side facade is lined by a sandstone terrace for an al fresco atmosphere. Bayden Goddard Design
