German Architecture To Get Your Motor Running!

Hot house or hot wheels? The Voglreiter Auto Residence is both! Designed by German architect Markus Voglreiter, this cool, compact house in Gnigl near Salzburg, Austria is unlike anything we’ve ever seen, and it’s certainly worthy of a tour. Originally a ‘70s-style house, the architect saw its many challenges and opportunities, namely, transforming a house structure into a car! Beyond that, Voglreiter incorporated two separate dwellings to accommodate two generations of the same family. He also instituted a eco-sustainable three-liter energy-efficient heating and insulation technique to dramatically reduce energy consumption, all the while, adhering to building codes in this prime historic Salzburg location. Bravo! Markus Voglreiter

Unusual Portuguese Architecture – A House of Art

Casa das Historias is a contemporary concrete house that sits in the Portuguese seaside town of Cascais. Designed by architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, this unusual Portuguese architecture is an homage to history with an eye toward the future. Made expressly to house a collection of work by London-based Portuguese artist Paula Rego, the home features two sky-reaching volumes that stand out on the horizon, its rusty-red concrete color conspicuous against the green, grassy surroundings. One of the prominent pyramids houses the art gallery, but you could call this entire house design a masterpiece! Eduardo Souto de Moura

Luxury Penthouse Apartment Overlooking San Francisco's Aquatic Park

Topping a concrete high-rise overlooking San Francisco’s Aquatic Park, this luxury penthouse apartment by California-based architect Craig Steely has it all – a stunning interior that is rivaled only by its breathtaking views. The original four-bedroom, four-bathroom space was redesigned into a stunning open-concept space that still provides privacy where you want it, but still lets you appreciate all its impeccable and thoughtful detail. We love the use of natural materials juxtaposed against the ultra-modern elements, all in this chic urban environment. From the richly finished Black walnut floors, the delicious wood kitchen and bathroom, to the floor-to-ceiling glass walls the flood every corner with natural light. Craig Steely.

Live / Work House Plan in San Francisco for Modern Architect

The Beaver Street Reprise in San Francisco, California – home to the Craig Steely Architect office as well as Steely’s “home” in a more traditional sense – was getting too cozy for comfort. To accommodate his own blooming business and that of his painter wife, as well as their growing son, rather than moving homes the architect opted to reconfigure the existing plan. The makeover meant relocating the kitchen, living room and dining area to a new rooftop level atop the existing two-storey, wood-clad home. The elegant new addition features floor-to-ceiling windows (like every level of the house) and opens onto a little private piece of heaven in the city – an outdoor living space with a sod roof and lovely south-facing outdoor deck, complete with a chic fireplace. The professional office occupies the lower part of the house. Architect Craig Steely.

Contemporary Loft Design Rivals Spectacular San Francisco Views

It’s hard to tell where the best views are seen from the contemporary Veldt/Carr Apartment in San Francisco, California. Designed by Architect Craig Steely, this awesome renovation of a high-rise corner loft offers the best of all worlds. Outside, an outdoor terrace borders the living area, presenting panoramic vistas of the San Francisco skyline and the Bay. Inside, the architect presents a whole new, modern view to behold. Incorporated into the design is a floor-to-ceiling ambient light installation, offsetting the natural views with futuristic flair. “The light wall runs nearly the length of the apartment, offering a view into a world that evokes the contemplative mood of ambient music as much as the recollection of distant memories,” according to the architect. Architect Craig Steely.
