The American Institute of Architects and Dwell magazine joined forces to sponsor the How Green Are You Contest, which showcases green homes and renovations. According to the Dwell blog, “The competition was fierce, with numerous submissions from across the country pitting recycled materials against low energy consumption and anemic carbon emissions in an all out sustainable design steel cage match.”

Ryan Walsh took the How Green Are You Contest Grand Prize with his submission of “Recycled Aesthetic”. In Walsh’s own words: “This house is a collection of various green projects, each of which utilizes recycled materials/products in uncommon conditions. Instead of first defining a wall or cabinet's aesthetic, and then purchasing material for it, I reversed the process. Over the course of five years, I had collected a variety of recycled materials. I then challenged myself to use those materials in a manner that honored their beauty.”
