According to Merida Meridian’s Green Statement, the company is committed to applying a new set of environmentally conscious standards to an industry that has historically used mostly chemicals and synthetics. The raw, natural fibers used in Merida green floor coverings include abaca, coir, jute, paper, sisal and wool, all of which are sustainable, renewable and/or biodegradable. Rugs made from abaca are not dyed, have no backing and are 100% natural. Paper fibers are sourced from sustainable, managed forests and the wool from New Zealand sheep farms uses no internationally banned pesticides, in addition to employing an energy efficient scouring method. Merida is also “mindful of the environmental impact of our raw materials and manufacturing processes”.

All of this adds up to stunning, natural fiber floor coverings with a diverse range of designs. The Core Collection exudes a sleekly sophisticated style, and the Metropolitan Collection is composed of a deep, luxurious wool pile. The Viewpoint Collection features bold colors and patterns, while the hand woven Abaca Collection brings artistic sophistication to natural fiber.

New for 2008: Tufted Gallivant, Jacquard Sisals, Jute Braid bindings and the Viewpoint Custom Program. The Gallivant Collection introduces a sophisticated tufted wool floor covering that creates luxury underfoot with varying thicknesses of cut and loop pile combinations presented in neutral color schemes. Jacquard Sisals feature new patterns of Bricks, Castle, Windows, and Columns, while the Jute Braid collection adds yet another distinctive option to the existing collection of diverse bindings. The Viewpoint Custom Program features eight versatile designs offered in your choice of three New Zealand Wool yarns. According to Merida, this allows “customers and their clients to collaborate in the creative process on an personalized and unique green floor covering.” Merida Meridian
