Green Tree House Built On A Budget

This green tree house is a labor of love for treehouse architects Jono Williams and friends here in Palmerston North, New Zealand. Simple and modest, the rustic house style blends beautifully with its surroundings, raised among the treetops with views of nature and the city lights sparkling off in the distance. This recycled house was constructed with an eco agenda using donated materials and rubbish – proving that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. A radio-controlled drawbridge is the gateway to this unassuming but totally cool design, which is also decked out with solar hot water, a water-collection system, LED lighting, a deck encircling the structure and all the comforts of home inside – indoor heating, hot water, a bath, sofa bed, sound system, the works. The water heater doubles as a column heater and triples as a barbecue – smart and efficient! Total spent: $1,700. And coming soon to this work in progress – a beer fridge, wall shelving and a dog kennel. Check it out at The Best Hut.
